This experiential workshop will provide strategies and engage participants in interactive dialogue about how they can best support the dads they work with, once they have decided to enter the doors of their support program or community service.
We will discover how and why dads make first contact with community services in order to better meet them in their parenting journey. How can you help dads get connected and comfortable in a group program setting, and most importantly, what makes them come back?
This training offers critical information, practical scenarios and informed discussion with experienced facilitators from provincially recognized fathering programs. Don’t miss this great opportunity for learning and mentorship in your work supporting fathers in your community.
Participants will be led through a day of conversation and brainstorming around exploring the possibilities to support fathers/male caregivers in your organization. Learn about the obstacles and successes encountered in beginning and maintaining long- running father involvement programs.
About the Facilitators
Reg Unrau began working at Abby Dads in 2011, and took over supervisor duties in 2016. He was previously working to support adults and youth dealing with housing, mental health and addictions issues. He presently works with a staff of 4, community partners, and volunteers, to support and facilitate programming mirrored in both English and Punjabi. He enjoys the responsibility of managing the Abby Dads crew, and staying involved by participating in a healthy dose of front-line programming and outreach to the community. Reg is a happily married father of two grown kids, and lives, works, and plays in the Abbotsford area.
Jordan Platana joined Archway’s Abby Dads program in 2016, following a number of years pursuing post-secondary studies and working in the addictions and rehabilitation field. Having overcome a life of shame, self-abuse, addiction, and depression, Jordan understands the value of healthy community and proper mental and emotional support. Jordan’s passion is fueled largely by the change that came about in his own life after other people took the time to listen and offer support when he needed it most. Jordan lives in the Fraser Valley with his wife, his two sons ages eight and nine, and the family dog, Pretzel.
