Changing Fathers, Evolving Practices Training

Changing Fathers, Evolving Practices is a customizable, one- to two-day training workshop available for delivery in your workplace or professional development event to assist you in creating father-friendly family services.

Fathers play an essential role in children's lives. For family service providers, engaging meaningfully can mean rethinking many of the basic assumptions behind delivering services and supports for families.

How will I benefit?

You will engage in some community strategizing and planning around the issue of fathering. Also, you will learn the necessary skills to make your programs accessible to fathers and to create a space where father involvement is encouraged and fostered for individuals from any walk of life.

You will benefit from looking at models of successful father involvement and learning about what your own practice can do, without wasting energy and resources repeating cycles of not so helpful activity. Instead, you can focus on meeting fathers' needs.

What will I learn?

Increase your awareness and understanding of the role of fathers and determine how to encourage a greater level of paternal commitment. Through focused workshops, learn to:

  • Reach out to dads (especially young dads) by making your programs more father inclusive
  • Take a systemic approach to community-based activities
  • Work successfully with fathers from other cultures
  • Make parenting education more accessible to fathers
  • Develop practices that support fathers and their involvement
  • Keep dads coming back to your program

Who is this training for?

For family serving practitioners who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of paternal involvement and in building strategies to support fathers.

What have former participants said?

"The best thing about this training was expanding my thinking around great things dads do and how I can take ideas back to my work and life."

"The best thing about this training was brainstorming within our community about how to get a program going."

"The most practical thing learned were simple things that don't cost a lot of money and that programming for dads is different."
