Family Talk

FamiliesTalk with other families. Anywhere. Anytime.  About Everything.

As parents, other families are often our greatest resource. Sharing your experiences and information with others who understand the rewards and challenges of parenting can make a big difference -- when times are tough, or when we want to celebrate a success or special moment.

Family Writes Story Contest

Family stories are the glue that binds us together.

So last fall, to celebrate families and their stories, we challenged you to share your funniest, most heartwarming, and most inspirational family stories in our Family Writes storytelling contest.  We were delighted with the response -- so many of you submitted moving, funny, inspirational stories about the meaning and value of families in our lives.

As Max Tell, one of the contest judges and a noted children’s entertainer and storyteller, commented,

“Our family stories have more meaning to us than any others. They shape our values and our lives, whether we like it or not. They make us who we are. Family stories are gifts, heirlooms to be shared from one generation to another, to be remembered, cherished and passed on to those we love.”

On January 27, National Family Literacy Day, we announced our winners:

“Sonny Don” by Sonny Don Van Netten.
“Trouble in Paradise” by Kale Blakely.
“Heavenly Sounds” by Carolynne Scholfield.

“Sands of Time” by Jasmin McKenzie.

“Daddy's Little Helper” by Gary Thandi.

About the Contest Judges:
We are honoured to have had the participation of some of BC's best storytellers, children's writers, and children's literature experts on our Family Writes Contest judging panel.

Our thanks go out to judges Max Tell, Sheryl MacFarlane, Nan Gregory and Phyllis Simon.
