About the Initiative

FamiliesHelping families cope with challenge.

The Home Visitor Training Initiative is based on the belief that all parents are capable of solving problems within the home.
Trained Home Visitors engage in the individual topics and concerns of parents. They are able to provide information and resources to families in a practical way so families develop self-coping skills and are strengthened in their efforts to build a healthy, nurturing home.

Who can get involved in the Initiative?

If you're a new or experienced Home Visitor hoping to deepen your skills and expertise and connect with fellow professionals with the same goals, home visitor training may be right for you. Supervisors and program managers also gain helpful training specific to their needs.

Who do trained Home Visitors help?

For families in situations of risk, where there are concerns about child development, parenting skills or child safety, the support and intervention of a trained Home Visitor can be critical to combat the risk factors that are present in the home and to encourage protective factors in the family.

What do families get out of it?

Home Visitors bring families resources, connectedness and expertise on a variety of pertinent family topics including communication and conflict resolution. Home Visitors have the necessary skills and techniques to encourage the building of harmonious, healthy relationships within the family -- the tools to thrive in family life.

Through the Home Visitors Training Initiative, you can help families in your community:

  • Develop strong protective factors
  • Learn practical strategies to overcome challenges
  • Build on parental competencies
  • Nurture positive parent-child relationships
  • Gain skills to promote healthy child development
  • Be recognized for family progress
