Winners of the 2011 Distinguished Service to Families Award

Vancouver, BC, June 13, 2011 -- Making a difference for families takes vision, creativity, leadership and determination. At the BC Council for Families, we have a name for people with those qualities: Family Champions. And to celebrate their accomplishments, each year we award the Distinguished Service to Families Award to two Family Champions in BC.

The BC Council for Families looks forward to a renewed partnership between non-profits and government under the leadership of Christy Clark that will bring real change to families in BC. Read on for our open letter to the premier-designate about this issue.

Healing from Suicide Loss: The Stories of BC Youth

Vancouver, BC, January 24, 2011 --  A disturbing fact: Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among young people in Canada.

Another fact:  Although much information exists on suicide prevention and intervention, there is little research and few resources which examine the impact of a suicide death on bereaved youth, from the perspective of the youth themselves.

Finding new approaches and fresh solutions to the challenges facing BC’s teen parents are the ambitious goals for this year’s teen parent conference starting in Vancouver this Friday.
