My Tween and Me Leader Training

Learn about the program and what it takes to be a leader.

Program Goals

My Tween and Me is designed for all parents with children age 7–12. Because risk factors can make any family vulnerable, the program builds on parental relationships that will guide tweens into and through the teen years.

As parents become aware of the risks their tween faces, they also come to understand protective factors unique to their family, which can avert problems in later years.

A Typical Program

Exercises, activities and case studies in the My Tween and Me program centre around these topics:

  • Healthy Development of children 7–12.
  • Life at School.
  • Family Relationships.
  • Peer Relationships.
  • Today’s World and Building Community.

While the overall structure of the program ensures continuity, leaders can tailor activities and choose their emphasis depending on the needs of the parents. The Leaders Guide provides opening and closing activities that bridge the sessions.

The program involves six sessions of approximately two hours each. Sessions are typically held weekly, but this can be altered to meet the particular needs and circumstances of participants. Fees to attend are based on cost-recovery as determined by the host agency.

Become a Leader

The flexible, adaptive format of My Tween and Me allows you to serve diverse families. While the curriculum has an overall structure, you are free to explore issues and focus on areas according to the needs of parents in your community.

This responsive approach incorporates current research on the key developmental milestones of children ages 7–12, along with practical communication skills for parents.

Who can host the program?

Because the success of My Tween and Me programs depend on qualified and committed leaders, a screening process is in place to help maintain the standards of the program.
