Funding licensed child care centres in 2008 - 2009.
At the BC Council for Families, we care deeply about supporting and strengthening families in BC. And for many families in our province, access to caring, quality child care is crucial.
That’s why the BC Council for Families managed the 2008 – 2009 distribution of the Child Care Quality Enhancement Fund. We were pleased to support BC’s child care providers through this one-time only funding.
This fund distribution is now complete. As one-time only funding, $20 million was distributed directly to licensed child care providers over two years. The Child Care Quality Enhancement Fund was an important contribution to the future of child care in BC – and to children and families in this province.
Over 4700 child care centres throughout BC benefited from this funding in 2009.
In 2007 the BC Council for Families was selected by the BC Ministry for Children and Family Development to manage and distribute $20 million to licensed child care operators throughout BC.
In February 2008 and 2009, installments of $10 million were distributed to BC's licensed child care providers to invest in:
In 2008, child care providers from every region of BC told us about how the Child Care Quality Enhancement Fund made a difference for their centres, and the children and families they serve.

At the BC Council for Families, we’re committed to engaging in open and participatory dialogue with child care providers. We want to answer your questions, to hear your views, and to help you share your thoughts with policy-makers, advocates, and parents.
