BC Social Work Week March 8-14

February 11, 2010

Social Work Week Professionals working for families need to be celebrated for the dedication, skills and caring that each of them give. Social workers have their own celebration happening this March during BC Social Work Week.

From March 8-14, communities across the province will make visible the behind the scenes work of social workers and their contributions to enriching the lives of families, while increasing awareness about social justice. The BC Association of Social Workers is providing promotional materials and tips on their website about how communities can join in the celebration. The BC week is part of National Social Work Month, organized by the Canadian Association of Social Workers. It's complimented by World Social Work Day on March 16th as well.

Social workers include counsellors, advocates, educators, policy analysts, administrators, activists, facilitators, mediators, organizers, researchers and more. These jobs require knowledge of human development and behavior, and how they are affected by social, economic and cultural institutions. Social Work Week is a time to recognize the contributions to society that social workers make in helping families better their lives and overcome challenges.
