These are challenging times for staff in BC’s social services organizations and community agencies. To help us all fight the burnout and stress that so often accompanies trying times, the United Community Services Co-op’s Passion for Work Week campaign encourages workers in BC non-profit organizations to take a moment and celebrate their own passion for their work. The 3rd annual Passion for Work Week is scheduled for March 22 to March 26. Check out www.passionforwork.ca
Try these suggestions to encourage reflection and celebration of the passionate people who work in non-profits.
- Passion wall – dedicate a space in your workplace where you can post notes and images of what inspires you, places that make you feel great, people who “fill your cup”
- Potluck or picnic; join with your co-workers to have a picnic -- either inside or out of the office.
- Secret Messengers – draw names and write to a co-worker about how they inspire you, what they have taught you, or how their passion has influenced yours.
- Set aside an hour or two to come together in your workplace and have fun, perhaps play a warm up game or treasure hunt with silly prizes.
- Create an atmosphere of gratitude, modeling the expression of Thank-you’s and appreciation you have for those hard-working colleagues around you.
Write about it! Let us know about your passion for your work, and stay tuned next week when we publish some of your responses. The BC Council for Families staff will be contributing too!
yes, I like that with issues
yes, I like that with issues and concerns being so close to the heart in our work; not being able to let it stay at work and all people being related in our community, the spill over from work to home is very stressful and very hard to deal with at home too.
I like the idea of recognizing the work being done and celebrating it. We have come along way to where we are; at one time 98% of our homes were not alcohol and drug free; now it has been reversed to 89% of our homes drug and alcohol free and moving upward.
