What better way to introduce a new resource for family service professionals than with one of Canada’s pre-eminent fathering researchers! Today, Dr. David Long, who recently spoke as part of the Council’s Focus on Fathering forum in January, kicks off our new monthly podcast series: Voices of Family!

Voices of Family showcases thought-provoking discussions with experts and front line workers in the family service community. With a new interview every month, you're sure to stay on top of current research, policy and practice issues, and find inspiration and guidance. For our first episode, King’s College University fathering researcher David Long sat down with BC’s Father Involvement Network Co-ordinator David Sheftel to contemplate modern fathering and how family services can support today’s fathers.  We invite you to listen now!

The BC Council for Families’ second annual Focus on Fathering forum brought fathering advocates, academics and family support providers together to build a stronger vision of fathering support in BC. Participants had this to say about the forum:

"The workshops have been inspiring, informative, and offer a great networking capacity which has helped us enormously in getting our new program off the ground."

"[Focus on Fathering and the Fathering Involvement Network BC are] valuable in creating a huge majority of specific family work and bringing a focus to fathers&fathering, ... AMAZING."

Check out the Focus on Fathering webpage for tips and reflection on helping fathers. Presentations, research, summaries and videos from the forum are available here for everyone. We hope you find these online learning tools enjoyable and helpful in your daily work.
