The aim of this information sheet is to explain the impact of stress and trauma on infant development, and help professionals understand how to address the needs of traumatized infants and their caregivers. It defines infant trauma and stress, explains what symptoms workers should be concerned about, talks about the effects of trauma and then discusses some possible interventions.

The Canadian Child Welfare Research Portal (CWRP) provides access to up-to-date research on Canadian child welfare programs and policies. The Portal is a partnership supported by the McGill Centre for Research on Children and Families (CRCF), the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at University of Toronto and the Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research.
