Fact: Fewer people than ever are getting married.  The 2006 census was the first in Canadian history to find more unmarried adults in this country than married couples.  Is this evidence of the disintegration of our social fabric, or is it a sign that increasingly people are able to find happiness outside of traditional family structures?

Canadian families are finally in six figure territory. That was the news this past week from the Vanier Institute of the Family, in their latest report on Canadian Family Finances. Unfortunately, the announcement wasn't good news, as the "six figures" refers to family debt load, not income.

How Are Family Finances Now?

The general consensus among the big banks and government is that the recession is ceasing and a slow recovery is in the works. But if analyses of family finance trends show anything, it’s that Canadian households will continue to grapple with money problems for some time.
